Non-Custom Orthotics, or arch supports, are the intro level orthotics that you find in shoe shops and chemists every day.

They come in a variety of shapes and colours, and offer a low amount of midfoot/arch support to alleviate some of the discomfort associated with heel or arch pain.

Don’t think that just because these kinds of orthotics are non-customised, they’re not effective though…for some people who don’t need much else, these offer the perfect solution!

The classic middle of the road option. This family of orthotics still doesn’t allow the ability to get prescriptive with angles, and materials, etc in order to build a truly customised orthotic for your feet, but it does offer slightly more customisation that the non-custom varieties. 

Some come with additions that can be placed in certain parts of the orthotic to gain more control over certain joints, while others offer the ability to heat the material and ‘mould’ them to your foot in order to get a better contour to your arch.

Either way, these kinds of orthotics are a great option if you don’t need the sophistication of a custom orthotic, or if we’re dealing with a time frame that simply won’t allow us to go down the custom made path.
